Tis the Season. Ho. Ho. Ho. I just can’t get up the Christmas Spirit this year. I am so tired. I’ve tried everything:

1) I thought maybe decorating would work. My husband got the tree put up, thankfully it is a pre-lit artificial tree. Oh, wait, the pre-lit lights didn’t work so he threw on some other lights that move around and do fancy things like the fountain at the Bellagio.

However, the thought of having to dig through the 8 bins of decorations and get out ornaments, snowmen, the cutesy door decorations, the stockings, the Christmas card holder and gah! So we went to the dollar store and bought red and gold ball ornaments and garland, stockings, glitter glue and cheap plastic “no damage” hooks to stick on the fireplace. As Christmas cards come, I hole-punch and string them up on the curtain rod in the livingroom with red ribbon. Still, it takes me 3-4 days to get the latest ones up. But I have to say, it does add some festivity to the livingroom. We decorated our new stockings just last night and hung them on the fireplace with care. We needed new stockings anyways as Big A and Little A’s both said “1st Christmas”. I had intended to make new ones for them on their second Christmases. Yeah, that didn’t happen. I didn’t make that mistake with Hiccup’s this year.

2) I thought an obscene amount of baking would get me into the spirit. I promised family I would send cupcake bites as Christmas presents so I spent one weekend making those and Christmas Tree Pops. Another weekend making peanut butter blossoms. Most of this week was spent making toffee and chocolate covered pretzels. Oh and I volunteered to make stuff for the bake sale at the kid’s school. Tomorrow night and Saturday morning I am making more peanut butter blossoms and this brownie candy cups recipe I found on Bakerella’s site. Yum. I think I will be done after that. Unless we spend Christmas Eve with the boys making cookies and reading Christmas stories. That will be nice. Oh, but look what she does to the peanut butter blossom cookie. I just found this as I went to grab the links! It’s the cuppie one I am talking about further down the page…lower…lower…yeah, right there! Double Yum!

3) I thought listening to Christmas music would help. OMG. I absolutely HATE the songs “Simply Having A Wonderful Christmas Time” and “Last Christmas”. And since everyone and their brother has re-made those songs, they are played even more than they used to be!

4) I tried Christmas shopping. That never is a good idea to get into the spirit. You kind of have to already be there to put up with that nonsense.

5) My last attempt was to do something fun for my husband. A friend of mine’s husband used to give her a gift on every day of the 12 days of Christmas. I am not sure if he still does it. I always thought that was cute. So 3 days ago, I gave my husband a pack of Apple Pie gum. He loves pie. Then on the second day of Christmas I gave him finger lights to work in the dark on his computer. Our office is also Hiccup’s room so often he is in the dark playing his game while Hiccup is sleeping. I thought the finger lights were pretty cool. Today, the third day of Christmas, I gave him 3 sticks of beef jerky. He loves this stuff. We shall see what tomorrow brings!

This last attempt is working a little bit. I love giving presents. I also dropped a tin of my baked goods off at an office where a bunch of friends work. That felt good, too. I can’t keep that s%&t in my house. A moment on the lips, forever on the hips, bloggers…there is still a bunch of toffee in the fridge. Hubby came home, looked at it, shook his head and said, “Nothing says I love you like crack cocaine in your fridge. Thanks, babe.”

Is it weird that that gave me a warm fuzzy? I don’t think so. :)

This is How it Goes Down (Or I go down…)

TEAM TURKEY!!

It’s Black Friday. No, I am not going out into the madness. No way, man. People run me over in the store on a normal non-apocolyptic shopping day. My mom says I am invisible to other shoppers. She has witnessed this first hand. I avoid Black Friday like the plague.

How was your Thanksgiving? Mine was pretty good. I woke up at 4:30 and couldn’t get back to sleep. I had to get up at 5:30 anyways so I could meet my sister and brother-in-law for a Turkey Day 5K run to help the children of Arden Shore. I got Big A to go with as well. He enjoyed it. I have recently taken up jogging and would have loved to run it, but I hurt my knee within the last couple of weeks so I could not.

I was at my company’s strategic planning meeting in Orlando. We went to this restaurant called Vines Grille & Wine Bar. As we were a big party, we were led to the back of the restaurant. Any time I stepped on their hard wood floors, I slid around a little bit. The first time I went to the washroom, I nearly bit it. The second time, I totally wiped out. I was wearing a dress and heels. I am pretty sure I flashed the place. There were some gasps and an “Oh my god!” Maybe just from me falling, maybe from my display – the jury is still out on that one. Anyways, I was so embarrassed I hopped back up and scurried into the bathroom. But I landed on my hand and my knee. It hurt sooo bad.

Back to the Turkey 5K – it took us an hour and two minutes to finish. Not completely dead last, but second to last. Except for the police cars bringing up the rear to make sure no one croaked. The older guy above with the number on was officially last. He was limping (looked to have a bad knee, too) but he went the whole way. I give him props.
My nephew and niece came as well so we stayed together for the most part and crossed the finish line together, too.  We did it more for the fun of it than to race. We didn’t even get numbers or those chip ankle bracelets that Lyndsay Lohan wears all the time. So not stylish, by the way. When we came back there was pizza available to load up on carbs but I just couldn’t do it. Alex ate two pieces, however. During the race, he complained he was hungry. He even found a McDonald’s bag lying on the ground, picked it up and shook it to see if there was anything in it. Oh, my kids crack me up.

Later in the day we all gathered at my sisters for the feast. Yum, yum. Even Camden ate on Thanksgiving! He had his first little bowl of rice cereal. He really likes it. He’s going to be a big eater – we already gathered that from the amount of formula he eats and the weight he has gained since birth, but this confirms it. At dinner he and Samantha realized they were near each other’s size.  Although Sam is a year old…

We were going to play some games after dinner but everyone was so tired. Boo! I like the annual Thanksgiving games. Maybe at Christmas! Speaking of Christmas – let the festivities begin! I think we have some kind of party or get together every single weekend in December. I better get up some Christmas spirit. Maybe I should decorate the house this weekend and get it over with. My least favorite part! Anyone want to do it for me??

Busy as a Bee!

26 Aug

So this baby keeps me busy. But look at him. So cute. Yes, you are! You are so cute!

I honestly forgot I had a blog. I also still have baby brain so don’t get offended. It’s not YOU, it’s ME. I am also working again and these other two..sheesh.

And ON TOP of that, school has started again! Little A is now in Kindergarten! How time flies – I was just writing this post about Big A starting Kindergarten, wasn’t I?? It was so sweet of me. And OMG, I just read it and made myself cry!  And now – see ya, Little A, don’t let the bus doors squish you. It’s not that I don’t wish the same for him and love him, it’s just that I am so darn busy and my brain is just not all there yet. I blame lack of sleep. And that baby up there. But I love you, Little A, and am so proud of you!

Big A has started football. And does he look big and tough with all those pads on!  Here he doesn’t have them on. This is after a practice. Sorry it’s blurry.

His first game is tomorrow. 8AM. Kind of early for my tastes…but these days, I’d be wide awake for it at 5AM so it doesn’t really matter to me, I guess! He is some sort of linemen, I think. No.. left guard. What’s the difference? I don’t know. I don’t do sports. I will watch his games, of course, and be his biggest fan! And I will probably learn stuff from that, but right now. Yeah, no. I did Volleyball in highschool. I sucked. Coach did pull me out as a “secret weapon” when we needed points. That was his clever way of making me feel good and a part of the team, not just warming the bench. Or getting water for the super good players. My secret weapon? I served SO BAD that I could barely make the ball over the net. It landed right on the other side of it - so close that the opposing team players couldn’t get to it in time. So close that we worried every single time I served, that the ball would graze the net. Sure, it’s funny now. Stop laughing though.

But enough about we guys…how have YOU guys been?! I did not forget about YOU guys! You’re darling! I’ve missed you!
